The deadline for sending a letter to the ARB, Aquaculture.Board@Novascotia.ca is 4:30pm May 24, 2023. It is also a good idea to CC your MLA, the Honorable Michelle Thompson at michellethompsonmla@gmail.com

Please let your voice be heard to protect Antigonish Harbour from potential environmental damage and the industrialization of historic Town Point. The proposed oyster farm will include approximately 23,000 cages over 90 acres with approximately 440 giant anchors screwed into the harbour floor and 52 km of ropes/cables.

The ARB requires that you provide your full name and civic address and list at least one of the 8 Factors which it must consider in its evaluation.  The letter should also state that you are writing regarding the hearing on TPCI’s lease applications for - AQ#1442, AQ#1443 and #AQ1444. 

The 8 Factors the ARB will consider in its evaluation:

1.    the optimum use of marine resources,

2.    the contribution of the proposed operation to community and provincial economic development,

3.    fishery activities in the public waters surrounding the proposed aquacultural operation,

4.    the oceanographic and biophysical characteristics of the public waters surrounding the proposed aquacultural operation,

5.    the other users of the public waters surrounding the proposed aquacultural operation,

6.    the public right of navigation,

7.    the sustainability of wild salmon, and

8.    the number and productivity of other aquaculture sites in the public waters surrounding the proposed aquacultural operation.
