We’ve got Eelgrass!

Eelgrass has a huge positive impact on our environment. Check-out the CBC story on how critical eelgrass is for all kinds of marine life forms and how eelgrass meadows are even more valuable than forests for carbon capture. Even better… Antigonish Harbour has lots of eelgrass! The picture below shows the locations of photographs of eelgrass observations, verified by the Ecology Action Centre, in August and September ‘22.

Protecting eelgrass in Antigonish Harbour, and along NS shores, should be a priority for us all and we need to guard against any risk to this critical resource, especially as Antigonish is striving to become the first net zero emission community in Canada!
